Description
This course provides a practical and results-driven approach to transforming drilling data into valuable geological and economic insights for mining projects. Participants will learn how to apply modern data analytics, geological modelling, and financial evaluation techniques to optimize decision-making from exploration through feasibility. We begin with drilling data fundamentals: collar positioning, downhole surveys, lithology logs, structural measurements, core recovery, and sampling. Students will gain skills to clean, validate, and integrate datasets from different drilling campaigns while ensuring QA/QC standards for reliable geological interpretation. The course then explores subsurface understanding through geostatistical modeling. You will learn how to analyze assay distributions, perform compositing, build variograms, and estimate grades using kriging or simulation. This enables the development of block models that accurately represent ore geometry, continuity, and uncertainty.A key focus is the link between geology and project economics. Participants will calculate cutoff grades, convert resources to mineable reserves, and evaluate open-pit or underground scenarios. Economic indicators including revenue, operating and capital costs, recovery assumptions, NPV, IRR, and payback period will be covered in detail. Sensitivity analyses will help quantify risk related to grade, prices, and operational conditions.Throughout the course, participants will work with industry-standard workflows and software-based examples. By the end, you will be able to turn drilling data into solid geological knowledge and economic value, supporting confident investment decisions in mining projects.
