The subject of reasons adults vape sits at the intersection of technology, tobacco policy, consumer behavior, and health research in the United States. Adult vaping is different from youth vaping and should be analyzed separately. CDC National Health Interview Survey data show that the percentage of U.S. adults using electronic cigarettes increased from 4.5% in 2019 to 6.5% in 2023. In 2023, young adults ages 21–24 had the highest reported prevalence among adult age groups, at 15.5%. Adult use can include people who have never smoked, former smokers, current smokers, and people who use both cigarettes and e-cigarettes. Those different patterns matter because the health and policy implications of complete switching, dual use, and nicotine initiation are not necessarily the same. The U.S. debate therefore involves both the potential effects on adults who use tobacco and the need to prevent nicotine initiation among young people. click here
