If the Lions do not get Avril signed to an extension before 4 p.m. ET on the 12th of March. at the time the new league season starts, then Avril will be able to enter the market Madden 23 Coins, and be able to really test his value. The past two seasons, Avril has been unable to accomplish this. He was an unrestricted free agent following the lockout in 2011 and was a franchise tag until 2012.

It's likely that Avril will be one of the most sought-after players if he hits the open market. He's likely to get a huge multi-year deal someplace and that's exactly what he's likely looking for currently in talks for the Lions. Avril has always stated that he'd prefer to remain with Detroit However, it's not clear what they'll pay him what he's asking for.

Avril claimed that it's all up to this week and given that the free agency deadline is right around the corner Avril is right. Avril has players such as Dwight Freeney, Paul Kruger and Michael Johnson to compete with on the open market but Avril is likely to command more than any of these guys.

The team did not have a great performance in 2012 by his standards. That could be the reason why the Lions aren't willing to give him the big salary. It's unlikely that teams within the league are equally hesitant but. A down year for him isn't likely to deter potential buyers as noted here. It will be interesting to observe what transpires.
