Despite constant pressure from regulators, pay-to win microtransactions remain a problem with FIFA 23. The loot boxes come in the form of player-filled packs within FIFA's wildly popular Ultimate Team mode FUT 23 Coins. You can buy FIFA Points in bundles starting around PS0.79 for 100 FIFA Points up to an astounding PS79.99 to 12,000 FIFA Points. Premium Gold Packs cost 150 FIFA Points, and includes 12 gold-rated players or consumables which can be used during gameplay or sold on exchange markets.

As for the company's policy, EA told Eurogamer that FUT Lootboxes "are an integral component of FIFA that players appreciate," and that "giving players the freedom to spend however they like would be fair." It has no plans to change its policy with regard to "surprise mechanics" until laws are passed that require it to.

It doesn't make the situation any better However, it's important to note that as a result of these laws, players can currently set weekly limits on FIFA points spending and pack being opened in Ultimate Team, and see the chance of receiving an extremely rated player prior to opening the pack. FIFA 23 also features time-limited Preview Packs which allow you to see what's inside a pack prior to making a decision to purchase it. However, this currently only works for one card that renews daily.

FIFA 23 is a bombastic end of the game (under the current title, at least) with a welcome focus on theatrical flair. The FUT Moments feature, Action Replays and game-changing gameplay tweaks that are viral like Power Shots make it a more thoughtful buy FIFA 23 Coins, memorable game of football simulation with deliberate defensive tactics and plenty of action and goals.
