In imperative programming, a statement is a command for the computer, forming the building blocks of programs, distinguishing actions (statements) from data definitions, and categorized as simple or compound based on whether they contain other statements; their look (syntax) and meaning (semantics) are governed by specific language rules, defining program behavior.
