A clear, honest look at AI's role in interpreting: the ethics, the laws, and what it means for your career.

What you'll learn
Explain the SAFE-AI and NCIHC guidance frameworks shaping how AI is used in interpreting today
Identify the five levels of AI involvement, from human-only work to fully AI-generated interpretation
Apply the four SAFE-AI ethical principles: autonomy, safety, transparency, and accountability
Understand the legal landscape around AI in interpreting, including Section 1557, Title VI, and IDEA
Recognize where AI supports interpreters versus where it falls short of legal and ethical standards

Requirements
No prior knowledge of AI or technology is required. This course is designed for working interpreters and translators, regardless of language pair or certification level.

Description
This course contains the use of artificial intelligence

Artificial intelligence is changing the interpreting profession, and most interpreters are getting conflicting, confusing, or incomplete information about what that actually means. This course cuts through the noise with a clear, honest conversation about where AI fits in our field today.

You'll learn about the two major frameworks shaping the industry right now: the SAFE-AI Guidance and the NCIHC Guidance for healthcare organizations. We'll break down the five levels of AI involvement, from fully human-generated interpretation to fully AI-generated machine translation, so you understand exactly where the line is between AI as a tool and AI as a replacement.

We'll also cover the four ethical principles driving industry standards: end-user autonomy, safety and wellbeing, transparency, and accountability. And because this isn't just an ethics conversation, we'll walk through the real legal landscape, including Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act, Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and IDEA, so you know what the law actually requires when AI is involved in interpreting services.

By the end of this course, you'll be able to speak confidently and accurately about AI with clients, agencies, hospitals, and colleagues, without fear-mongering and without pretending the technology isn't here. This is the honest conversation our profession needs.

This course is part of a growing library of resources I've built for interpreters looking to grow their skills and their business. Search "Ambar Interpreting" on Udemy for more of my courses, or find me online for additional templates and resources.

Who this course is for
Interpreters and translators who want to understand how AI is affecting their profession
Medical, legal, and community interpreters looking to stay informed on industry standards and regulations
Language service professionals who want to speak knowledgeably about AI with clients, agencies, or hospitals
Anyone entering the interpreting field who wants a clear, honest picture of where AI fits in
