Scientists refer to the results of a study of the behavior of rodents, which more often chose the latter between drugs and sugar. In their opinion, this carbohydrate is more addictive than alkaloids. Sugar does cause health problems, other scientists say, but it's not addictive. They argue that the authors of the article misinterpreted the results of experiments with mice and do not support the view that sugar is a drug.
