Like its predecessor, this stellar collection of modern dub has roots that go deep into reggae's classical era (the early- to mid-'70s) while at the same time celebrating the reciprocal influence that reggae and dance music's remix culture have had on each other over the last few decades. And like its predecessor, this collection is international in scope, featuring currently active artists and producers from Australia, France, Sweden, the Netherlands, Italy, Switzerland, the U.K. and even the U.S. Most owe an explicit debt to dub pioneers like King Tubby and Lee "Scratch" Perry, but most have also incorporated a variety of more modern influences: The Interruptor, for example, spices up "Inner City Dub" with subtle jungle elements, while Faya Dub's "Jolly Jumpers Dub" features both tabla and jazzy flute. Solomon Jabby's "Youth Revolution Dub" sounds like pretty standard fare until you catch what sound like born-again Christian exhortations poking through the mix, while Alpha & Omega deliver a predictable but solid slab of their old-school steppers dub stylee. Highly recommended.
