Develop Grandmaster Judgement and Decision-Making Skills. There are two things you need to truly become successful at chess, calculation and feeling. While calculation training is pretty straightforward, developing a feeling for a position and what moves are good based on intuition, is harder, but learnable. Grandmaster Training: Decision-Making by GM Aleksandr Rakhmanov teaches you not to think like a computer, but like the best players in the world by developing your chess intuition.
It's a natural follow-up to his first course, Grandmaster Training: Advanced Fundamentals and indeed it builds upon the four-step thinking process when considering a move
- Prophylaxis
- Forcing moves
- Piece improvement
- Pawn moves
While the first course primarily focuses on brute calculation, this one focuses on the art of honing your chess intuition via studying the author's games and his reflections when considering candidate moves.
Inside you will learn how to sense when a move is good, what moves you should consider, and what moves to rule out by slowly learning how to notice subtleties such as weak pawns, a weak king, piece placement, and everything else that goes into finding the right candidate moves.
Some of the ways you will fine-tune your chess intuition
-Discern between when there is a best move or several good moves - make practical decisions when several seemingly good options are available by considering things such as how many defenders are near the enemy king
- Save energy by knowing when to calculate - do not waste valuable time and energy by calculating in calm positions. Most positions only require 3-4 moves of calculation depth
- Understand when to release pawn tension - when to open the position or go for space. Are you giving your opponent a better pawn structure?
- Evaluate piece exchanges like a human - keep queens on the board even when up material to better your chances of winning
Grandmaster Aleksandr Rakhmanov has handpicked a mix of the finest puzzles and model games so you can gradually incorporate that winning chess feeling into your play.
By studying this course, you will acquire the deft positional awareness that led your author to win multiple medals as a player and to nearly a 2700 rating over the board.
Feel the position and start making the best moves by hand with Grandmaster Training: Decision-Making.
