Hexagon is proud to announce the release of MSC Actran 2025.2 with the launch of a new acoustic solution, Actran Radiosity. Version 2025.2 also includes enhancements to our ePowertrain noise workflow, enhanced excitation capabilities in the acoustic indicators tool, and many more new features.

MSC Actran 2025.2 Release Highlights
Tackle large space and high-frequency noise challenges using the new integrated radiosity solver.
Actran Radiosity for large space applications and high-frequency noise propagation
The radiosity solver, a geometric-energetic-based acoustic approach, is now integrated into Actran to tackle large space and high-frequency noise propagation. It is ideal for analysing acoustic energy in large domains, which are challenging for wave-based approaches. Applications include vehicle cabins, aircraft cabins, factory noise, noise propagation in trains, and exterior radiation.
With this method, engineers can:
- Analyse acoustic propagation of spaces faster in the high-frequency range.
- Get noise maps and frequency response functions anywhere in the fluid domain.
- Provide a minimal number of inputs (2D surface mesh, absorption coefficients and noise source).

The ePowertrain Noise workflow now includes cover treatments/encapsulation
Quickly compute the insulation effects of acoustic cover treatments, also called encapsulations. There's no need to set up a complete acoustic analysis; just define the material properties for the cover(s) and select the region(s) where they should be applied. There's no need to build the physical 3D trim.
With this new capability, engineers can:
- Compute the insulation effect of the encapsulation.
- Scale the vibrations of the ePowertrain at the treatment location.
- Save both engineering time setting up the model and analysis time, thanks to faster performance (-40% runtime and -60% RAM consumption versus a 3D method).

Use equivalent sources in the ePowertrain Noise workflow
The ePowertrain workflow can now assess equivalent sources. Define the location of a set of equivalent monopoles, and the workflow will compute their complex amplitude so that their combined radiation is as close as possible to the real ePowertrain radiation.
With this new capability, engineers can:
- Get equivalent sources that can be used to represent the powertrain in later studies. For example, to perform a pass-by noise analysis.
- Access the best equivalent source combination in terms of its location.

The acoustic indicators tool adds oblique incidence and diffuse sound field excitations
The acoustic indicators tool now includes diffuse and oblique excitations. The Transmission Loss (TL), Insertion Loss (IL), and absorption coefficient of multi-layered materials can now be assessed analytically from an incident wave with an angle of incidence or a Diffuse Sound Field (DSF).
With this new capability, engineers can:
- Quickly analyse the frequency behaviour of trims.
- Compare the noise reduction potential of different trims before running an analysis on the full model.
- Design composite trims to reach a targeted noise reduction in each frequency range.

Acoustic trim computation in SEA Manager
Acoustic trims can now be easily computed and combined in SEA_MANAGER. Once each trim effect is computed individually, creating new trim configurations that combine them takes seconds instead of hours. For this trim computation to work correctly in SEA_MANAGER, the imported virtual SEA analysis should embed a SEA_MANAGER_DATABASE containing all the surfaces that will be trimmed afterwards
With these new capabilities, engineers can:
- Stay within the SEA manager framework to conduct trim analysis.
- Iterate quickly to get the best trimmed combination.
- Perform what-if analysis with trims, using strengths and power of SEA.

Many more new features
Several other new features are included in this version, including:
- A new SEPTUM component to model surface mass: Model distributed mass and/or stiffness in vibro-acoustic analysis. When importing an MSC Nastran analysis in Actran, the Nastran NSM cards are automatically translated into SEPTUM components, which are equivalent.
- Adaptive mesh creation based on heterogeneous mean flow: Creating a qualitative mesh adapted to a heterogeneous mean flow manually can take days. The new FLOW_REMESHING feature inside ICFD automatically generates adaptive meshes based on heterogeneous flows that match convected acoustic meshing criteria.
- Local damping support for space applications: The space workflow (WM_SPACE) supports local damping coefficients for different PIDs or materials for coupled vibro-acoustic simulation. The solved models can then have heterogeneous damping coefficients, which is useful for representing the physics of multi-material structures.
- SIF indicator to assess the acoustic diffusivity: the new Sinc Indicator Function (SIF) output (accessible from an OUTPUT_REQUEST), between 0 and 1, assesses the quality of the acoustic diffusivity of a field. It compares the spatial cross-correlation of this field to a perfect diffuse sound field. It's especially useful for Direct Field Acoustic Testing (DFAT) simulations.
- A new mesh editor framework: The mesh editor is a new framework dedicated to meshing operations, is much faster than the original framework, and supports undo/redo operations. Import existing meshes, create new meshes and modify meshes. (The only modification tools currently available allow you to edit PIDs, move, copy and delete, but future releases will eventually contain all the meshing functions.)
