PTC launched the latest version of its flagship CAD software,
Creo 12.4.2.0. The Creo 12 brings "hundreds of powerful enhancements to its design, simulation, and manufacturing capabilities," according to PTC.
Creo 12 enhances the user interface, including adding feature presets that allow users to set their own defaults; composite structure design, including the ability to generate a solid geometry from composite layers; electrical design, including the ability to work on a harness as an assembly; model-based definition (MBD), including enhanced file export to STEP AP242; and more.

Cabling > Improved Cabling Tree Usability
Description: Previously, all nodes collapsed after each view change, causing you to repeatedly reorganize the tree. The Cabling Tree now retains its expanded or collapsed node structure when you switch between tree views or define new features. The enhancement maintains your preferred layout across actions, allowing a more consistent cabling workflow.
Benefits: This enhancement provides the following benefits:
- Preserves the custom tree organization during design.
- Reduces repetitive expanding and collapsing of nodes.
- Saves time and supports a more efficient modeling process.
Detailed Drawings > Improved Control Over Sheet Metal Bend Note Leader Attachment
Description: The new detail option smt_bend_notes_leader_type provides improved control when creating the attachment of sheet metal bend notes with its leader's elbow.
The values of the detail option are:
- Automatic*-When default_note_leader_type=std_asme, the bend note is centered about the leader's elbow. When default_note_leader_type=std_iso, the bend note is positioned according to bend direction (above or below the elbow).
- Elbow_Below_Text-The leader elbow is placed below the text.
Benefits: Improved control over display of bend notes in models and drawings, along with enhanced compliance with the detailing standards.
