Build real CI/CD pipelines: automated tests, matrix builds, caching, secrets, GitHub Pages deploys and Docker images
What you'll learn
⚡ Explain CI/CD and how GitHub Actions workflows, jobs, steps and runners fit together
⚡ Write workflow YAML from scratch and read run logs with confidence
⚡ Trigger workflows on push, pull requests, manual runs with inputs and cron schedules
⚡ Build CI pipelines for Node.js and Python apps with matrix builds
⚡ Speed up pipelines with caching and share files between jobs with artifacts
⚡ Use secrets, variables, environments and least-privilege GITHUB_TOKEN permissions
⚡ Deploy a website to GitHub Pages automatically on every push to main
⚡ Protect main with rulesets and required status checks
⚡ Build and push Docker images to GitHub Container Registry (GHCR)
⚡ Create reusable workflows, composite actions and automated releases
⚡ Debug failed runs and harden workflows against common security risks
Requirements
❗ A free GitHub account
❗ Basic Git: commit, push and pull
❗ Basic comfort with a terminal; no DevOps experience needed
❗ Free tools: Git and VS Code. Docker Desktop is optional (only for Section 9's local test)
❗ No paid cloud account and no credit card needed
Description
This course contains the use of artificial intelligence. The narration uses an AI-generated voice; every screen demo is a real recording.
Every modern software team automates testing and deployment. GitHub Actions is the easiest place to learn it, because it's built into GitHub and free for public repositories.
This is a 100% hands-on course. Instead of slides, you watch every step happen on a real screen: writing workflow YAML in VS Code, pushing from the terminal, and watching live runs pass, fail and get fixed in GitHub.
You start with your first workflow and the four triggers you'll use most: push, pull_request, manual runs and schedules. Then you build real CI for a Node.js app and a Python app, with matrix builds, dependency caching, artifacts and test summaries.
Next you handle secrets, variables and environments with approval rules, and lock down the GITHUB_TOKEN with least-privilege permissions. You deploy a live website to GitHub Pages and protect main with required status checks. You build a Docker image, push it to GitHub Container Registry, and automate releases with tags.
Finally you learn to reuse YAML with reusable workflows and composite actions, debug failed runs methodically, and harden your pipelines by pinning actions and avoiding script injection. You finish by building a complete capstone pipeline, from an empty repo to a live site, a container image and a tagged release.
